i went to the dr — they said that i had traces of white blood cells in my urine. i have all the symptoms for bacterial vaginosis, and am pretty sure that’s what it is, even the doctor said that was a possibility, either that or a yeast infection and i’m positive its not that because i’ve had those before– however i do not want to have another internal gyn exam. will Ciprofloxacin clear up bacterial vaginosis?

Ciprofloxacin will kill a bladder infection (hence the white blood cells in your urine), and will probably do the same for bacterial vaginosis. Cipro’s an antibiotic and should do the job.
You may be talking about two different infections. Urinary tract infection versus vaginal infection.
What else did the doctor tell you? White blood cells can indicate urinary tract infection. Other symptoms, including itching, odor, and discharge, can indicate vaginal infection. Some symptoms may go with both.
Only take the Cipro if your doctor ordered it. Don’t take leftover Cipro from another illness.
It should but with any antibiotic and any bacterial infection, it may take more than one course of antibiotic.
Cipro is a VERY strong antibiotic. Let me warn you…..have some Immodium AD and some Tums on hand. There is a GOOD chance it will tear you up inside. It is a common side effect so don’t worry. I had to take it once for a UTI and I had to send my boyfriend out to Walgreen’s at 3am on Thanksgiving morning for a bottle of Tums. I found out after the fact it is a side effect.
